PADS—Southwest Chicago PADS at 3121 West 71st Street cares for the homeless in and around Marquette Park. For over 20 years PADS has offered counseling and a wide range of social services in addition to food and clothing. CK volunteers work in the PADS clothing ministry, gathering new and used clothing and helping the homeless find clothing to stay warm.
Su Casa—For many years, CK volunteers have provided a hot lunch to those in need at Su Casa, at 51st and Laflin. One Sunday every other month we feed over 100 needy families and individuals.
St. Vincent de Paul—Christ the King's St. Vincent de Paul Society provides emergency assistance to those in need, both inside and outside of our parish. Whether it's helping a family keep its heat on in the winter, filling empty kitchens with groceries, finding winter coats for kids or any urgent need, St. Vincent de Paul can help. The Society also organizes parish-wide food drives, clothing drives and blanket drives and provides support to our other ministries.
Meals for the Homebound—This ministry provides home-cooked meals to seniors and those that are homebound due to illness, surgery, etc. The first Sunday of each month the volunteers buy, cook, box and deliver a nice Sunday dinner and spend some time visiting so these seniors know they are cherished and remembered.
The Mission of Our Lady of the Angels—The Mission establishes a Catholic presence in West Humboldt Pk on Chicago's west side. The Mission assists the poor and shares the Catholic faith through programs such as a mobile food pantry, community dinners, senior programs and after school tutoring. The CK Christmas Giving Tree benefits the Mission and volunteers are always welcome.
Outreach and Intervention Team—No neighborhood is immune from the problems of substance abuse. Several members of the parish have received extensive training to help the whole family of those who suffer from substance abuse. The Outreach Team has also been trained to facilitate interventions.
A New Direction—Domestic abuse is another problem that knows no geographic boundaries. A New Direction provides counseling, education, support and advocacy to individuals and families affected by domestic violence. Contact: New Direction's web site at anewdirectionbmp.org
Franciscan Outreach—Located on the West Side, Franciscan Outreach is one of the oldest and largest providers for homeless men and women in Chicago. Franciscan Outreach offers a refuge from the streets, feeds the hungry, helps individuals build a better life and offers a lifeline to thousands in need each year. Volunteers are always needed.
Precious Blood Center—The Precious Blood Center tries to stem the tide of violence by providing at-risk youth with hospitality, hope and healing. Programs include simple social gatherings, field trips, tutoring, art projects and physical fitness. Participating youth come from different neighborhoods and races and are typically former residents of the juvenile detention center.
Fiat Lux-Service to others is an important ministry at Christ the King. The Fiat Lux group provides various volunteer opportunities throughout the year, both within Christ the King and around Chicago.
